Actually, it’s rather obvious: you look for THE idea, a useful and local service that stands out among the stream of new apps. (One handy way is a lighter version of your website). Ideally, it is the apps that make the user’s life more pleasant (services, games, coaching, sport, cooking, … there’s choice enough).
Which platform should I choose?
Apple’s iPhone is the Smartphone that is best known for its apps. Given its success, it’s logical to launch your own app on this platform.
However, you can hold back other trump cards… Android, Google Phones’ service platform, is a player with a lot of potential. BlackBerry, with its AppWorld, is very popular among professionals.
